There he stands.  Three piece suit and brief case in hand.  He is standing on the corner of a crowded street.  He is wearing a clown face and holding two dozen balloons in his hand.  Sounds pretty foolish, doesn't it.  The truth is, he is taking the balloons to children at the hospital where he works.  you see, he is the hospital administrator.

For us, the clown is the symbol of a fool.  But, clowns are foolish in a delightful way.  Clowns make us feel good and free us up to be a little foolish ourselves.

Christians are called to be fools for Christ in 1 Corinthians 4:10, "We are fools for Christ's sake."  We are called to dare to be different.  We are called to risk being foolish in the eyes of the world, spreading the wonderful Good News of Jesus Christ.

Like bringing balloons to children in the hospital, or volunteering at Fayette Cares or the Red Cross.  Or, like the clown, exchanging our status for caring.  How will you be a fool for Jesus Christ in 2010?

Have a blessed day.  See you Sunday at Historic First United Methodist Church in Somerville.

Grace & Peace
Rev. J. Larry Kendrick
